This altar was made to honor my grandma’s who I never really got to know or meet on a personal level. Maria Rosalina Angulo Figueroa was my father’s mom and Josefina Sanchez Eraz was my maternal grandmother. I decided to make an altar for them because I wanted to appreciate my ancestors especially the women who I know had it the hardest. I tried my best to include two of everything so each of my grandmas could have their own items. I included candles with the Virgencita because I come from a Catholic family and La Virgen has always been the saint who we pray to and believe in. I included Coke’s because I know that my grandma Josefina loved drinking soda so I decided that soda would go perfectly with the pan de muerto for each of them. I include a Mexican canteen at the very bottom of my altar because I bought it the first time I went to Mexico which was about three years ago. The canteen represents me going to Mexico and seeing where my family came from, meeting new family members, visiting the graves of those who passed, so it means a lot to me. I don’t have many images of my grandma’s but I tried including some that my family found. I also love bright colors so I wanted to make sure the altar had a color pop to it. <3
