The altar I created is dedicated to my great-grandma Rosaura. Growing up and even now my mom has always talked about her to me and my siblings so it felt right to create this altar for her. Unfortunately, I don’t have any memories with her. I was brought to the U.S. when I was one years old. So I wasn’t able to spend a lot of time with her or with the rest of my family back back in Mexico. My great-grandma passed away when I was around 5 years old. In the altar I included corn and beans because my great-grandma and her family would grow and harvest them. She was a campesina and Mazahua. I also included a cup of soda because my mom mentioned that my great-grandma would always ask for a cup of coca-cola. I used the altar project as an opportunity to learn more about my great-grandma and also my roots. It was the first time that I had an in depth conversation with my grandma. It felt nice to have my grandma tell me stories and just hear her talk about my great-grandma.
