This altar is in special dedication to my abuelitos. Tereso Barboza (10/15/1930-05/ 30/2012) father of my mom and Neftali Diaz (09/20/2012) father of my dad. It also honors Fernanfo Diaz Segura, my abueltio’s dad and Martha sister of my grandma. They were all born and raised in Guerrero, Mexico but in different towns named Apetlanca & Ahuacatitlán. In my ofrenda I wanted to showcase the colorful and vibrant colors that I feel and have seen in the streets of Mexico. I was not fortunate enough to grow up being able to spend the weekends with my abuelitos since my parents came to the U.S. at an early age alone. This has made it harder to connect with my culture and elders, but I cherish the few memories and encounters with them that I have had. I focused on the celebration of life & life that Dia de Los Muertos highlights instead of the darkness that death brings. It is an aim at dreaming of their past life will also acknowledging the constant companion of death that everyone has.-Laura Diaz-Barbosa
