Silvia Fausto

I come from a world of in-betweens, never really belonging here or there. I've become accustomed to living in the cracks between worlds--- to dwelling in its' liminalities and living in it's intersections. My work is a representation of my experiences with life and death, with my culture, but most of all with my identity. I am a Mestiza, a hybrid; I negotiate with the borders that have been forced on to me. I am both an insider and an outsider. I used to be afraid of not being enough, of not being understood or accepted. But then I realized that there is beauty in these liminalities, there is beauty in these cracks because I choose what to make of it. This altar was put together in honor of my great grandparents, this is my attempt to get to know them better, even now that they are gone. I imagine they are smiling at me, because slowly but surely, I'm getting back to my roots. Silvia Fausto
