Pedro Flores Jr.

On this day, which should be celebrated as a season, the death of our rituals are
becoming more prominent. Amongst so many powers that control our ways of life,
social media and those who have the power to impose laws have been slowly
deteriorating our ancestral ways of life. The culture that has been created to erase
our history is within our societal style of life. Without knowing, we are
contributing to the murder of our indigenous roots and have blamed historic
amnesia that we have cultivated by acculturating to society’s standard of life. By
the time we realize this cruel massacre it will be too late and our roots will be
pulled out of the soil where we resided for many years before the conquest. On this
day, I call to your attention the commercialization and manipulation of our
indigenous roots and the vast growth of the death of a important part of who we are
because who we are now, will not be who we were before. Some call that growth,
others call it Malinche.
Here, I depict the contributions to the murder of our ancestors which will erase all
history of where we are and have been in the past. The control of those with power
and the media are coating our ritual with a glazed image of how we should be
celebrating today. Look into the mirror that will reveal the truth about how I feel.
Look into the mirror that will show you the truth about our celebration. Look into
the mirror that will be creating a conscious that will forever follow you like all the
other burden that this country has added to the invisible sack that we carry on our
backs.
