Isla Covarrubias
This altar is made in honor of Yaretzi Marroquin Luna. This is one of the pictures that I love of her. It took place in my house under my table while she was crawling and looking for food on the floor, “ just being a baby”.
The calavera with the pink and purple eyes represents Yaretzi, so it has been named after her. Also I have placed a small hand towel and soap, since the belief is that when our loved ones come they too need to wash their hands before touching the food.
In this part of the altar I have displayed some of the things that belong to her. The green shoes that the stuffed animal has, were given to her together with an outfit. Even though Yaretzi hated shoes, it is a way to remember her and for me it means that I have a part of her. Despite her not being physically here.
This stuffed animal was one of the last ones I gifted to her, hence it is special to me. In addition, throughout the altar one can see a display of tangerines. Due to her illness she was unable to drink water, therefore, her favorite fruits were citruses such as tangerines.
