Miranda Gomez

I had decided to dedicate my altar to both my great grandma’s, Lucia and Catalina. These two women were the matriarchs of my mom and dad’s side of the family. They were hardworking women who had always loved and took care of our family members. It has been years since both of my great grandma had passed away, so I wanted to honor them both and keep their memory alive. Though I was not close with them when I was younger I wanted to let them know where ever they may rest that I still think about them everyday. I provided Nescafe coffee and cookie sticks so that my great grandma Cata can enjoy and peanut brittle and A&W root beer for my great grandma Lucy. I chose to decorate the alter specifically with butterflies because I like to believe that everytime I see a butterfly cross my path that it is them watching over me. I also put rice and beans as a reminder of our families humble beginnings. My family did not have a lot of money and could only afford rice and beans so it was a reminder of where we came from. I hope that I had honored them well with my altar and will continue to do this every year and past down the tradition to my future children.
