Adan Nevarez

My project is a poster that depicts the vast differences that members of our society are currently facing due to COVID-19. The poster contains four pictures of different situations people are experiencing. One picture is of a young child with her mouth covered by a hand and tears coming out of her eyes. This depicts the child abuse that thousands of children are enduring since they no longer have an escape like school. Second is a picture with a woman covering her face, hiding the bruises she has gotten while this stay at home order has been issued. With nowhere to go, domestic abuse has gone up, abusers are less freighted of their actions being found out and victims pay the price. Third, is farmworkers picking strawberries, I chose this picture for the thousands of farmworkers from my hometown, my family and friends. During this time they have no choice but to remain in work to provide for their families and feed our country. With many lacking papers, they don’t have equal access to healthcare and government funding yet people expect them to show up daily so we can have fresh strawberries at the grocery market. Lastly is a picture of a happy family at home, while people are out fighting for their lives and anxiously going in to work this family has access to work from home and take time off if need be. The slogan on top which says, “Same storm, different boats” is meant to symbolize that although we are all going through this same storm (pandemic) we are going through it in different boats, meaning our circumstances are all different. While some take this as a vacation, others are anxiously waiting at home or still going into work each day and being at the front lines of the virus. I’ve heard many people say we are all in the same boat but I felt that didn’t do people that are struggling justice. Some are going through this pandemic in lavish yachts while others merely have life jackets.
