Pinewood, Wood Stain, Tile Adhesive, Ceramic Tile, Grout, Polyurethane, Bee Mix Clay, Stone Red Clay, Underglaze, GlazeHandcrafted altar made para mi ancestors, mi familia.I began ceramics in 2013, and learning this material became very natural and easy. When working with clay, I would get into a trance and I needed to stay in the studio to fulfil that craving. As some time passed, I began to wonder why this medium worked easily for me. It was not until continuing my higher education at UC Berkeley these cravings would deepen, weaken my spirit, and at times fall into depression. I was not working with clay as much as I had in community college and I came to understand that I did not need to create because I love to, but because it was a calling from my ancestors and the way we communicated. My connection to my homeland and to my ancestors come through my creative process. Luckily, I’ve learned to extend that communication through all mediums I currently work with. I feel them and hear them telling me to keep going and to help keep our rich history alive. Working with wood was a material I knew I needed to learn and understand. Understanding its stages from raw to refined helped me to understand our indigenous ancestors into who we are today with their love and spirit inside of us. This altar is for ustedes, te escucho
