At first, I had no idea how I was going to execute my ideas the way I envisioned them in my head. My dad and I kept brainstorming different ideas, especially since he could get a lot of the stuff (boxes, tubing, etc) from his job. My family has never really created altars annually to honor those who have passed from our families. It is such a beautiful tradition and I am so glad I was able to take part in it. I was never in tune with that specific part of my culture but this was a really great project to learn about Dia de los Muertos. I had wanted to do an arch on my altar and cover it in butterflies and flowers. Butterflies have signify hope and remind me of my loved ones. I wanted to incorporate a lot of different colors to make it look bright and intriguing. The photos on the altar are my cousins, my grandma, my great-grandma, my aunt, my uncle and my boyfriend’s grandpa. I am glad I was able to dedicate this altar to them because they deserve to be remembered on this day
