This altar is in memory of my grandmother Rufina whom passed away four years ago. After
much research, I discovered that a lot of my family heritage derives from Oaxaca and thus my family has Zapotec origins. Although my grandmother had Zapotec origins she loved everything that had to do with the Aztec culture and oftentimes told me stories about the Aztecs gods, which is why I decided to add Aztec monuments on her altar. In addition to the monuments, I chose to include some of her favorite things such as fruits and a beer. The picture I chose to share of my grandmother is a very important one as it is the picture that was taken of her on the day of her wedding and ultimately it was that moment that shaped the course of her life and thus I felt it important to include that picture in her altar. Lastly, since my grandmother was religiously Catholic I decided to include a cross on her altar and did so by creating the Dia de la muerte flor out of napkins and shaping them in the form of a cross.
